Norbert was a weekend project I did
with my son mostly out of the parts holding bin.
The stepper motors and driver circuitry were bought years ago from MAX/NC as a 4
axis motion system. It was a bargain at the time so I bought it
and it sat in the pre-design parts bin for a long while. I wanted to see how fast
I
could make a BSX-2 coded set of stepper motors go with $4 Home Depot lawn mower
tires. My son wanted to get something built in the shop. It was a fun project but as
expected, it was painfully slow and grossly
under powered. I also didn't think through the project real well from my son's
perspective either. He was 10 at the time and getting the electronics wired up
and the code written was beyond his ability so I had to do a bunch of alone-time
work on the project. This delayed it's entry into an operational bot for way too
long for his taste. Norbert currently sits patiently on the shelf as a convenient place to store some motors, wheels and electronics until they are
called upon by another project. Or who knows, this summer we might do some
redesign with some new motors. Never know.....
