Tredz

Up

Tredz was an excellent and fun project for a number of reasons:

bullet

It was the first run at creating a CNC set of identical parts from the Smithy/FlashCut system.

bullet

It was my first foray into the realm of chain drive.

bullet

The frame uses 3/8" all thread and 1/2" aluminum tube spacers as cross supports. A really handy construction technique for building gear boxes.

bullet

I finally (& permanently) learned not to use surplus motors anymore. Once you let the smoke out you can't get it back in and replacements are pretty much impossible to find. All that great CNC work out the window.

bullet

It was my first shot at a treaded vehicle- those are actually double sided timing belts.

bullet

Before the smoke got out, Tredz was very fast and responsive.

The motor output is on the right. Note the 3/8" bolt ends.

This gives a good idea of the chain paths and the frame parts.
